Group Assessments
All groups have been working well together.
Today I will visit with each group and discuss how well everyone has met the six requirements. Please open your workbooks and list each person's progess before I visit the group. I will also ask that each group member show me how they met the requirements.
Within the six requirements there are at least 16 necessary tasks that each students should know how to accomplish. If you do not know how to do any of these items, ask someone in your group for help. If nobody in your group understands what I meant, then ask me.

Quick Review of Six Assignments
Before groups begin making movies, every group member must demonstrate competence using our basic tools.
Please review
Assignment 1. Creating a g-mail account. In the To section list a parent or guardian. "Copy" means "Cc" so list my school e-mail in the Cc section. There should be three links in the body of the e-mail. Before sending, look at the email subject.
Assignment 2. Blog Invites and Following. This is a huge assignment. Many parents have enjoyed reading about our class. I have appreciated all of the communication and feedback as well.
For a student to receive full credit, I must receive a message from a parent confirming that a parent is "Following." By the way, a parent can "Follow" without participating.
Assignment 3. Posting, Controlling the Sequence, and Responding Properly. For new students, this might be a complicated project. For returning students, improve your blog so that viewers can read your response. Learn more about "Post Options" at the bottom of each blog post during composing.
Assignment 4. See the link about the recent historical references project. I want you to learn how to post links and embed videos in your blog. There is a difference between pasting a website address http://sanmarinmmvp.blogspot.com/2011/02/2nd-sem-assignment-4-1980-something.html and insert a link. Same with embedding videos.
Assignment 5. Second Group Video Project. Embed both videos and provide your question with three supporting answers. See the link.
Assignment 6. Creating Groups. Following Group members. Making a group email contact. Send the e-mail to my school email listing the members and leader and assistant leader name. If you do not know how to create a group in gmail, use the help function.

Embedding vs. Pasting code
Here I embedded a video using the "Edit HTML" tab
Here I just copied and pasted the code after selecting the "Compose" tab.

Assignment 7, Part 1
For our next assignment, we will be creating storyboards.
This article provides a beginning understanding of storyboards. If your group has completed the first six assignments, read this article and learn the terms posted on Tuesday.
Also, see the examples of storyboards on page 6 under the heading "Plan Your Digital Video."
Your first video assignment will be a 30 second video. You can create a commercial or other short project. Notice how many clips are in this popular Super Bowl commercial. You need a story board for each shot.

New Group Requirements
A few notes before we continue with group projects...
Before students begin filming, all students in each group must complete the first six assignments. I also expect that the students are familiar with using the basic tools. Some students have done amazing work. Other students are almost doing amazing work, but are still making a few minor mistakes. Sometimes, I do not explain everything as well as I could.
So, before we begin, everyone in each group is responsible that everyone in their group knows how to do the following.

Assignment 6 - New Groups
With student input, our class has created new work groups for the remainder of the school year. Most groups will have five students; some may have only four.
While students are still responsible for individual assignments, students will also be required to work together. Students will learn how to work in teams, and compare how choosing groups is different than working with externally imposed groups.
For assignment 6, students will choose their group members.
Then, students will choose a leader and assistant leader.
Next, students will "follow" their group members blogs.
Finally, students will send a group e-mail to Mr. Farley at bfarley @ nusd.org will all student e-mail addresses. In the subject, please list your group number and period number. Students will create groups the same way they would create an indivdual contact.
On Monday, students can begin creating story boards and video projects if every person in their group has completed the first six assignments of the second semester. Groups will not be able to film outside until every member has completed the first six assignments. If for some reason a group member is unable to complete any of these assignments, please contact the teacher.

Assignment 5 - MTV Group Projects
In the second group project, our class researched historical trends in music videos. Students also learned how frame research questions.
In this post, list your question and provide your answer.
Each answer should have three supporting points. For example, if you asked "How did Madonna influence current music trends?" Your answer could read like this:
Madonna influenced current music trends the following three ways. First ...
Also in your post, embed your two music videos.

2nd Sem - Assignment 4 (1980 Something)
Some of you may have already prepared this post. If not, see the bottom of the Video Killed the Radio Star post with the link provided above. In the song "19 Something," Mark Wills sings about a time I remember. While I might be familiar with all of his references, you may not be.
Research at least five of these recent historical references.
Provide at least four links and one embeddable video. If you do not know the difference between a link and an embedded video, please ask.
Send me an e-mail when complete with the subject listed in the title of this post.
