Composition - Arranging - Putting Things Where They Belong

One of my students asked recently about photography. She wanted to know how she could get better.

I told her to start looking at light. How an artist sees light is important to photography, painting, video, video games, and all forms of multimedia. I asked my students to look at light when they worked on the five photo trail project.

Now I want students to think about composition. Learn about Composition. Research Composition.

My simple definition is this: where the objects go on the screen (or printed image.) sometimes I say, where I decide to arrange the objects. In our last assignment, students could arrange the objects with more freedom.

I have three basic rules for composition.

1. Get Closer
(You can read a little about what I mean here, but you can't see the photos at school)

2. Don't put the main subject in the middle.

3. Frame

So, for today, research photo composition. Find sites on the internet and post them into your blog. Read about composition. You will probably find tons of links. Post at least ten. Read and share. Work in pairs.
